President of the Istanbul Chamber of Bakers (İFO), Erdoğan Çetin, said that bread production costs in Istanbul are one and a half times higher than in other provinces.

Making a statement on his social media account, İFO President Erdoğan Çetin said, “Bread production costs in Istanbul are one and a half times higher than in other provinces. Bakers in Istanbul have become unable to bear the cost burden. In particular, our natural gas and electricity expenses correspond to almost 70 percent of the total cost. It has become an absolute necessity to subsidize the producers of bread, which is the most basic food item of our citizens, in these cost items.”

Kule Fırın Grup business owner Serkan Sokur said that IFO President Erdoğan Çetin's call has to be uttered loudly by the sector representatives. Serkan Sokur asked Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci, Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati, and Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş from his social media account to support the bread producer for personnel and energy expenses. “Bread producers, who are in a deadlock after the last energy hikes, must be given support for their personnel and energy expenses. You will not be able to find a bakery to buy bread for your home very soon. I hope that no producer or tradesman will close their workplace and go home with downcast eyes,” Sokur said.
