“For the last six years Al-Hazaa has been milling a quantity of 750,000 tons of flour annually using 100% clean solar energy and reducing carbon emissions due to its full dependency on its solar power plant in Jordan. In addition to its flour mills, the group also operates a maize mill, which is the only maize mill in Jordan producing gluten-free flour and maize grits, a pasta factory for short and long-cut pasta, and the only noodles factory in Jordan producing packed and cup noodles.”

As one of the pioneers in the food production sector in the Middle East and due to the fact that the food industry is one of the largest and the most energy-consuming industries in the world, Al-Hazaa Investment Group saw the importance of using sustainable energy in their production and therefore established a solar power plant in Jordan. The group took upon itself the responsibility of increasing efficiency and reducing energy consumption by utilizing more clean sustainable resources, as a first step Al-Hazaa group chose Jordan to establish its first renewable energy plant because it houses many of the Group’s projects, operating ten factories in Jordan alone, this step has enabled Al-Hazaa Investment Group to reduce its carbon emissions by 12-13 thousand tons annually.

The power plant project, which is called Al-Hazaa Company for Generating Renewable Energy was built in 2017 in Al Zumayla town in Jordan, it is the largest private-use solar power plant, the first SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle), and the first company in Jordan to obtain licenses for generating renewable energy for self-consumption. It was built on a 400,000 squared meters area, the power plant has a production capacity of 36 million kWh per year and supplies all AI-Hazaa Group’s facilities in Jordan with their full needs of electricity, which enabled Al-Hazaa Group to be the first investment group in Jordan to produce flour and food solely depending on solar power, making Al-Hazaa group’s production in Jordan 100% sustainable and eco-friendly.

Al-Hazaa Group is the largest flour producer in Jordan and has the largest capacity of grain storage in the private sector. It owns 4 flour mills: Raghadan Mill in Al-Mahatta, the oldest flour mill in Jordan, South Amman Mills in Dabaa, the largest mill in Jordan, the Jordanian Flour Co. in Marka, and the Red Sea Flour Mill in Aqaba, the group’s total milling capacity in Jordan equals to 2,100 tons per day, for the last six years Al-Hazaa has been milling a quantity of 750,000 tons of flour annually using 100% clean solar energy and reducing carbon emissions due to its full dependency on its solar power plant in Jordan. In addition to its flour mills, the group also operates a maize mill, which is the only maize mill in Jordan producing gluten-free flour and maize grits, a pasta factory for short and long-cut pasta, and the only noodles factory in Jordan producing packed and cup noodles. Other non-food operations for Al-Hazaa Group in Jordan are the feed and plastic production facilities, all these factories are fully depending on the solar power plant for their daily operation, as the solar power station has a generating capacity of 16.5 MW, the generated power is supplied to Al-Hazaa facilities by the wheeling approach. It is expected to expand this plant in the future to serve the growing number of AI-Hazaa Group’s facilities in the country.

Al-Hazaa Company for Generating Renewable Energy was established after directions from the Chairman of Al-Hazaa Investment Group, Mr. Jamal Al-Hazaa, his goal to uplift the industrial field in Jordan while being socially responsible was the main motive that pushed him to take this step despite the challenges that will arise from entering the renewable energy sector, in which the group has never worked in before, a forward-looking vision to ensure the stability and success of the group’s operations. Therefore, he instructed to collaborate with the best world-known suppliers to establish a contemporary plant that will effectively serve its mission.

Today after six years of operating this plant, it had proven how essential and successful this step was and how it helped the group not only to abide by its mission but also to protect the group’s businesses against unexpected market fluctuations like rising energy costs, limited supplies, or others.

Jordan is considered one of the developing countries in the world and running such a project that enables Al-Hazaa Investment Group to operate depending on green energy is so important to conserve the country’s natural resources and provide services and products to people without affecting the environment. The Group is very proud of this step and hopes to implement more similar projects in Jordan and other countries very soon.
