IDMA Today 2024 - Day 1

02 2 MAY 2024 t the core of our gathering lies wheat, the grain that has sus- tained civilizations for millen- nia. From its ancient roots in Anatolia to its widespread adoption as a staple food globally, wheat embod- ies not just sustenance, but also pros- perity, tradition, and innovation. The journey of wheat, intertwined with human history, deeply resonates with the values of IDMA Istanbul, where minds and technologies con- verge to shape the future of grain processing. From the inception of ag- riculture in the Fertile Crescent, where wheat first took root, to the intricacies of modern global trade, the narrative of wheat mirrors the evolution of mill- ing, from traditional stone mills to cut- ting-edge roller mills. As a pivotal intersection for the global milling industry, this event aims to catalyze innovation, collaboration, and trade in the ongoing journey of wheat. Our primary objective is straightforward: to foster the connec- tions and partnerships that will propel the industry forward. As a hub show- casing the latest innovations in the milling machinery sector, IDMA antici- pates reaching an export value of 500 million dollars. As IDMA Istanbul opens its doors, I want to highlight our role in fostering progress and innovation within the industry. In an era marked by rapid technological advancement, issues like food safety, sustainability, and dig- italization take center stage. Acknowl- edging the necessity of addressing these urgent concerns, our sector is doubling down on investments and research efforts. As consumers be- come increasingly mindful of the ori- gins and production processes of their food, the industry is witnessing a shift towards higher food safety standards. In today’s world, where environmen- tal consciousness is growing and re- sources are under pressure, suppliers are leading the way with eco-friendly solutions aimed at minimizing carbon footprints, optimizing resource utiliza- tion, and championing principles of circular economy. Simultaneously, digitalization is revolutionizing grain processing, ush- ering in an era of unparalleled efficien- cy and optimization. From AI-driven predictive maintenance to IoT-enabled smart factories, digital technologies are reshaping the industry’s land- scape, steering it towards a more in- terconnected and data-centric future. Against this backdrop, IDMA Istan- bul assumes heightened importance, serving as a platform for innovation, collaboration, and transformative dia- logue. Through its dynamic exhibition floor, illuminating presentations, inter- active discussions, and educational programs, IDMA Istanbul functions as a nexus for industry stakeholders to explore, engage, and shape the future of grain processing. Because IDMA transcends be- ing merely a trade fair; it serves as a platform for dialogue, education, and development. Alongside the exhibi- tion, the 5th International TABADER Summit will convene industry experts to explore the latest industry devel- opments, innovations, and production technologies. From digitalization and artificial intelligence to logistics, these groundbreaking sessions will shape the industry’s trajectory in the years ahead. Additionally, we take pride in dedicating a special session to ‘Women in Milling’, underscoring our commitment to diversity and inclusion within the industry. As we convene in Istanbul today, I wish to underscore the city’s strate- gic significance as a nexus between continents, cultures, and markets. Turkey’s prominent role in global flour exports, coupled with its pivotal posi- tion at the intersection of Russia and Ukraine—accounting for 30 percent of global wheat exports—and its centrali- ty to North Africa and the Middle East, which depend on wheat from these regions, render Istanbul the perfect host for such a transformative event. Looking ahead, I am pleased to announce that IDMA’s next exhibi- tion will take place in Russia, from April 10th to 12th, 2025. This event in Russia, the world’s leading wheat export destination, signifies another significant milestone in our journey to shape the future of the grain industry on a global scale. As we convene in Istanbul, while embracing the grandeur of its ancient legacy and the vitality of its modernity, let us capitalize on this significant op- portunity to chart a course towards a more sustainable, resilient, and pros- perous future for the milling industry. Once again, I extend my warmest welcome to IDMA Istanbul, where tra- dition converges with innovation, and the future of milling unfolds before our eyes. Welcome to shaping the future of milling! M. Ali Kalkan Chairman of the Board of HAGE Group Dear participants and visitors!
