Prior to the PLA, Alistair worked for Blue Circle Industries plc/Lafarge, Cement UK, the UK’s larg- est cement manufacturer. “Flour is an ingredient in about a third of our supermarket foods, and the UK flour milling sector is vital to the nation,” Alistair Gale said. “I’m looking forward to joining in the early summer, continuing the transformation in profile and repre- sentation the association has been evolving through over recent years.” Alex Waugh will be retiring from UK Flour Millers after more than 30 years’ service. He has worked across a number of other representative organisations, including the UK Rice As- sociation and European Flour Millers, and played a leading role in a number of sectoral committees and organisations advising government and industry. Commenting on Alex Waugh’s retirement, UK Flour Millers president and chairman of Whitworth Bros and Carr’s flour mills, Roger Butler, said: “Alex’s passion for the milling industry is evi- dent to all of us as members. He has helped us address many challenges and changes in his time with the association. He will leave with our heartfelt thanks for an amazingly well-done job.” Some 2,500 people are employed in UK flour milling, work- ing in an industry with 51 mills across the country. UK Flour Millers appoints new chief executive UK Flour Millers has announced the appointment of Alistair Gale as chief executive, taking over from di- rector general, Alex Waugh, who has led the organ- isation (formerly nabim) for more than two decades. Alistair, İngiltere Un Değirmencileri’ne 1 Haziran 2023 tari- hinde, kurumsal ilişkiler ve strateji direktörü olarak görev yap- tığı Londra Liman İdaresi’nden (PLA) katılacak. Alistair, PLA’dan önce İngiltere’nin en büyük çimento üreticisi olan Lafarge şir- ketinde (Blue Circle Industries plc/Lafarge, Cement UK) çalıştı. Alistair Gale yeni görevi ile ilgili yaptığı açıklamada, “Un, süpermarket gıdalarımızın yaklaşık üçte birinin içeriğini oluş- turuyor ve İngiltere un değirmenciliği sektörü ülke için haya- ti önem taşıyor. Yaz başında katılmayı ve Birliğin son yıllarda geçirdiği profil ve temsil dönüşümünü devam ettirmeyi dört gözle bekliyorum” dedi 30 yılı aşkın hizmetinin ardından İngiltere Un Değirmen- cileri’nden emekli olacak olan Alex Waugh, İngiltere Pirinç Bir- liği ve Avrupa Un Değirmencileri de dahil olmak üzere bir dizi diğer kuruluşta çalıştı. Ayrıca hükümet ve endüstriye danışman- lık yapan bir dizi sektörel komite ve kuruluşta lider rol üstlendi. Alex Waugh’un emekliliğini yorumlayan İngiltere Un Değir- mencileri Başkanı ve Whitworth Bros ile Carr’s Un Değirmen- leri Başkanı Roger Butler şunları söyledi: “Alex’in değirmenci- lik sektörüne olan tutkusu, üyeler olarak hepimiz için biliniyor. Birlikte geçirdiği süre zarfında birçok zorluğun ve değişikliğin üstesinden gelmemize yardımcı oldu. İnanılmaz derecede iyi yaptığı iş için en içten teşekkürlerimizle aramızdan ayrılıyor.” İngiltere’de un değirmenciliğinde yaklaşık 2.500 kişi istihdam ediliyor ve sektörde ülke genelinde 51 değirmen bulunuyor.
