BBM • DECEMBER - ARALIK 2024 65 ARTICLE • MAKALE We all demand larger refrigerators and spend energy to store more food. Yet, unfortunately, much of it ends up in the trash. Food waste not only results in economic loss but also wastes water, soil, energy, and labor. This means that natural resources are wasted through a multiplier effect. The magnitude of the problem clearly shows that we need to produce striking and innovative solutions. Times are changing, the climate is changing, as it has before. We say that we migrated to Anatolia from Central Asia due to droughts there. What about now? If these regions become arid, where will we go? Or if other places become arid, who will come here? I am talking about climate refugees. This is not something that can be prevented with weapons. Hungry and homeless peo- ple cannot be stopped by anything. This could lead to significant social upheavals. In fact, these are issues that well-fed people need to think about and take precautions against. Only in this way can we leave behind a world where our children can live safely in the future. Therefore, as authorities and decision-makers, we should adopt a more holistic approach when making decisions. Food systems, from seed to our tables, are a process that needs to be managed through the collaboration of all stakeholders. If we take shared responsibilities, we can overcome these problems. Hepimiz daha büyük buzdolapları talep ediyor, daha fazla gı- dayı saklamak için enerji harcıyoruz. Ancak ne yazık ki birçoğu çöpe gidiyor. Gıda israfı, yalnızca ekonomik değil, aynı zamanda su, toprak, enerji ve emeğin de boşa gitmesine neden oluyor. Bu durum, çarpan etkisiyle doğal kaynakların israf edilmesi anlamına geliyor. Sorunun büyüklüğü, çarpıcı ve yenilikçi çözümler üret- memiz gerektiğini açıkça gösteriyor. Zaman değişiyor, iklim değişiyor, bu daha önce de oldu. Anadolu’ya Orta Asya’dan göç ettiğimizi söylüyoruz; bunun sebebi de oralarda yaşanan kuraklık. Peki ya şimdi? Eğer buralar kuraklaşır- sa biz nereye gideceğiz? Ya da başka yerler kuraklaşırsa kimler bu- raya gelecek? İklimmültecilerinden bahsediyorum. Bu, topla tüfekle önlenebilecek bir şey değil. Aç ve barınaksız insanlar hiçbir şeyle durdurulamaz. Bu da büyük sosyal dalgalanmalara yol açabilir. Aslında bu konular, karnı doyan insanların düşünmesi ve tedbir alması gereken meseleler. Ancak bu şekilde, gelecekte çocuk- larımızın güvenli bir şekilde yaşayabileceği bir dünya bırakabi- liriz. Dolayısıyla, yetkililer ve iktidar sahipleri olarak kararlarımızı alırken daha bütüncül bir yaklaşım benimsemeliyiz. Çünkü gıda sistemleri tohumdan soframıza kadar, tüm paydaşların iş birliğiyle yönetilmesi gereken bir süreçtir. Ortak sorumluluklar üstlenirsek bu sorunların üstesinden gelebiliriz.
