In terms of quantity, exports decreased by 4.6% com- pared to the same period last year; however, a 9.2% increase in unit export prices resulted in a 4.2% rise in export value. In the export ranking, chocolate and cocoa-based prod- ucts took the lead with $844.1 million in exports, marking a 61.8% increase, followed by sunflower oil, which rose 17.3% to reach $708.6 million. Once the sector’s largest export item, wheat flour exports dropped by 33.7% in both value and volume terms during the first eight months of 2025, amounting to 1.5 million tons worth $575.5 million. In com- parison, during the same period last year, Turkey exported 2.3 million tons of wheat flour valued at $868.5 million. The United States, on the other hand, recorded a remarkable 34% increase, with exports reaching $570.9 million. Other key export destina- tions included Syria, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia, while Ger- many and the United Kingdom were also among the sec- tor’s top ten export markets. Decline in flour exports slows down grain export growth The drop in flour exports has also impacted Turkey’s eight- month grain export performance. According to data re- leased by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the grain industry’s exports reached $8.1 billion in the first eight months of 2025. While flour exports fell by 33.7%, the 61.8% surge in chocolate and cocoa-based products dominated the sector’s overall export performance.
