BBM Magazine 105 - October/Ekim 2026

BBM • OCTOBER - EKİM 2026 12 NEWS HABER Türkiye’s wheat flour exports declined sharply in August compared with both the same month last year and July, reach- ing their lowest level in the first eight months of 2026. Accord- ing to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data presented in the October sector report of the Turkish Flour Industrialists’ Federa- tion (TUSAF), approximately 116,000 tonnes of flour were ex- ported in August. This compares with around 199,000 tonnes in August 2025 and 196,000 tonnes in July 2026. Calculations based on the report’s rounded monthly figures show that August exports fell by approximately 41.7% year on year and 40.8% month on month. Export revenue also declined from around $73 million in the same month last year to $42 million. The August figures indicate a further decline in exports, which had already remained weak over the year. However, the report provides neither an assessment of the reasons behind the decline nor a country breakdown specifically for August. Eight-month export revenue falls to $480 million Türkiye exported a total of 1,302,976 tonnes of wheat flour between January and August, generating $480.414 million in Türkiye’s flour exports fall sharply in August Türkiye’s flour exports fell by approximately 42% year on year in August to 116,000 tonnes. Export revenue declined by 16.5% in the first eight months of the year, as a sharp contraction in the Iraqi market overshadowed growth in Ghana, Somalia and Cuba. Export revenue fell by 16.52% compared with the same period last year. The monthly figures show that the increase recorded in April did not develop into a sustained recovery. Exports reached approximately 210,000 tonnes in April before falling to 137,000 tonnes in May and 139,000 tonnes in June. Ship- ments rose to 196,000 tonnes in July, followed by another sharp decline in August. The most pronounced loss over the eight-month period oc- curred in the Iraqi market. Revenue from flour exports to Iraq fell by 62.5% year on year to $56.78 million. Calculations based on the values and percentage changes provided in the report put the rev- enue loss in Iraq at approximately $94.6 million. This is almost equal to the roughly $95.1 million net de- cline in Türkiye’s total flour export revenue. Increases and decreases across other markets largely offset one another, highlighting the sub- stantial impact of the contraction in Iraq on the overall results. This comparison relates to the eight-month period and does not establish that Iraq alone was re- sponsible for the decline in August. Syria remains the largest market by export revenue Syria was Türkiye’s largest flour export market by revenue in Janu- ary–August, accounting for $115.55 million. Sales to Syria represented approximately 24% of total export revenue and were more than twice the value of exports to Iraq. Nevertheless, export revenue from Syria also fell by 2.2% com- pared with the same period last year. Syria’s current share therefore needs to be viewed in the context of the much sharper losses in Iraq, rather than as evidence of growth in the Syrian market. The contraction was also evident at the regional level. The value of flour exports to the Near and Middle Eastern Asia group fell by 34.5% to $198.03 million. Although this region remained Türkiye’s largest flour export destination group by revenue, weakness in traditional markets weighed on overall performance. Growth in Ghana, Somalia and Cuba Some markets in Africa and the Caribbean bucked the over- all downward trend. The value of flour exports to Ghana rose by 35.7% to $41.72 million, while exports to Somalia increased by gelir elde etti. Toplam ihracat gelirinin yaklaşık yüzde 24’ünü oluşturan Suriye’ye satışlar, değer bakımından Irak’a yapılan ihracatın iki katını aştı.
