TIM President Mustafa Gültepe called for strengthening the brand value of the Turkish pasta industry at the World Pasta Day event.

Today, I’d like to talk about pasta and nutrition from a dietitian’s perspective. Nutrition is not just a science—it’s also a culture. Culture is what brings people together; it’s how we express love, celebrate joyful moments, and even share in sorrow.

World Pasta Day 2025 was celebrated in Istanbul with messages of global unity and sharing. International Pasta Organization (IPO) President Carl Zuanelli expressed his gratitude for Türkiye’s hospitality and praised the success of the event, noting his delight that World Pasta Day was being celebrated in a “cultural and economic capital” like Istanbul.

After an 11-year hiatus, World Pasta Day returned to Turkey, once again showcasing Anatolia’s deep-rooted wheat heritage and the global success of the Turkish pasta industry.

Global flour exports remain steady in volume but volatile in value, reflecting both resilience and fragility. For low-income countries, flour is a cornerstone of food security, while in high-income markets it is increasingly tied to innovation and value-added products.

Standing at the crossroads of traditional taste and digitalized production, today’s bakery industry is redefining quality, sustainability, and technology in a single framework.

Every year, one-third of the food produced globally ends up in the trash; a significant share of these losses comes from bread and bakery products. In Turkey, 1.5 million tons of bread are wasted annually, while the figure is 900,000 tons in the United Kingdom and 1.7 million tons in Germany.

Rising global energy costs are becoming an increasingly significant burden for food producers worldwide.

New record for the industry shows revenues reaching €10.06 billion. Exports booming (+10%). The Turkish National Grain Council (UHK) anticipates a drought-induced decline in wheat production. Prof. Dr. Bayram Sade, a board member of the UHK, announced that the 2025 yield is expected to reach 18.6 million tons.
