Doruk Un has completed seed studies aimed at increasing cultivation areas and productivity in Turkey. Following the harvest season, evaluation studies revealed that Doruk Un successfully produced varieties with disease and drought resistance, high quality, and yields three times higher than the average wheat yield in Turkey. Additionally, the company developed varieties with protein values approximately 25% higher than the Turkish average.
Doruk Un, one of Turkey’s largest wheat flour producers and exporters, concluded its research and development (R&D) and breeding activities in sustainable agriculture and certified seed studies. Operating under the umbrella of ‘Doruk Tohumculuk’ (Doruk Seeds), the company developed nearly 80 seed varieties, including wheat, barley, oats, corn, sunflower, and lupine, across eight different regions in total—three in the Marmara Region and five in Central Anatolia and Southeast Anatolia. The company successfully passed tests for disease and drought resistance, quality, and yield. Compared to the average wheat yield in Turkey, the developed varieties yielded three times more, and in terms of protein content, the varieties exceeded the Turkish average by approximately 25%.

Doruk Un, focusing on sustainable agriculture and productivity-based production, has now completed seed studies aiming to increase cultivation areas and productivity in Turkey, an agricultural country. Following harvest in the Marmara Region, where nearly 80 seeds were developed, the brand successfully passed all tests for disease and drought resistance, quality, and yield during the evaluation studies. While the average wheat yield in Turkey is 250-300 kg per decare, and the Thrace region averages 300-400 kg per decare, five of the newly developed candidate seeds yielded between 700 and 900 kg per decare, achieving three times the yield. In terms of protein value, the most crucial quality parameter globally and in Turkey, the Turkish average ranges from 11.50% to 12.50%, while the candidate seeds were evaluated between 14.5% and 16.5%. By reducing the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers by 50%, Doruk Tohumculuk provides cost advantages in input costs. The company plans to contribute to the Turkish economy by starting to sell the four wheat varieties it developed from the next year onwards. According to the conducted studies, planting the same amount of wheat seeds in the same areas in the next planting period is expected to yield at least 50% more than the current production. While achieving these figures, the brand aims to obtain a better-quality product with lower costs by collaborating with farmers. It continues its efforts to ensure that Turkey completely stops importing flour for flour exports and becomes a competitive exporter.
“WE WILL MAKE TURKEY A LEADER IN AGRICULTURE”
Gürsel Erbap, Chairman and CEO of Doruk Un, expressed confidence in making Turkey one of the world’s leading countries in agriculture by collaborating with various stakeholders. He emphasized that the country has the climate, soil, and human resources to achieve this within the next decade. Erbap highlighted the need to reduce the dependency on foreign raw materials in agriculture-based industries to prevent disruptions in the national economy and foreign currency loss. Doruk Tohumculuk will continue its breeding and R&D activities to contribute to this cause. Erbap invited all stakeholders, especially the public, to participate in similar studies.
Doruk Tohumculuk has made significant progress not only in wheat but also in barley, corn, and sunflower seeds in R&D and breeding studies. The company has taken a strong step towards domestic and national varieties, developing 80 seeds in different categories, ranging from cool climate cereals to warm climate cereals, from industrial crops to leguminous forage crops. Doruk Un aims to reduce Turkey’s foreign dependency by developing domestic and national varieties within the scope of seed activities. The company is proud to contribute to the country by increasing the national product in the near future, adding value to Turkish agriculture with peak varieties that meet all needs, especially in wheat—the main food source of the country.
