İbrahim Yumaklı, Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, announced the initiation of a planned production model in agriculture. He further reported the signing of the “General Agricultural Census Protocol” between the ministry’s General Directorate of Agricultural Reform and TURKSTAT.

When asked about the new planned production guidelines in agriculture, Minister İbrahim Yumaklı explained, “We initiated this endeavor last year. With the law revised on April 5, 2023, we embarked on the first phase. The associated regulations have started to roll out, and the agricultural production process is now in motion. How will this proceed? Primarily, a technical committee will assess what should be produced in a particular region, factoring in water availability, soil conditions, industry based on agriculture, and feedback from producers. Some provinces have already started this process. These findings will be forwarded to the Agricultural Planning Board. Any recommendations that are insufficient, excessive, or not aligned with regional conditions will be refined. We aim to structure our agricultural output around the supply-demand dynamics. Initial focus will be on strategic products, and the planning cycles will span three years.”

Addressing the impact of the agricultural census on the sector, Yumaklı commented, “We are consistently equipping TURKSTAT with the resources it requires to maintain accurate agricultural data. Once the comprehensive census commences, we’ll have a consolidated view of agricultural assets, including cultivable land areas, livestock figures, and product measurements. Updates are imperative, and so is data validation. The census results will provide this clarity. It would be incorrect to claim that no agricultural data is being assessed in Turkey. However, periodic verifications are essential, and the census will facilitate these verifications.”
