The producer information meeting of the 'Barilla Sustainable Durum Wheat Cultivation' project, which was carried out in cooperation with Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University (TNKU) Faculty of Agriculture and Barilla Gıda, was held at the TNKU Rectorate Conference Hall.
Explaining the process of transforming durum wheat into pasta, Murat Bozkurt, Director of Barilla Food Supply Chain, said, "As Barilla Gıda, we have been supporting the agricultural activities in order to provide all our raw materials from Turkey for nearly 25 years. We cultivate contracted durum wheat in many regions. For the last 8 years, we have been working with universities and research institutes within the scope of the Sustainable Agriculture Project. Following the Southeastern and Central Anatolian regions, we have been trying to revive the durum wheat agriculture and develop it in a sustainable model after a long time in the region with TNKU Faculty of Agriculture in Thrace for 3 years. We continue to work with the aim of moving to a contracted and sustainable agriculture model with the support of information and technology in all production areas.”
Stating that Barilla has been producing contracted durum wheat with 375 producers on an area of 33 thousand decares in Thrace as of today, Bozkurt said; "We are proud to be able to produce all our products with 100% Turkish wheat in our country, which is a net importer of durum wheat."
