Global frozen bakery player Vandemoortele has acquired the remaining shares of US-based Banneton Bakery, taking full ownership of the company. The acquisition marks an important step in Vandemoortele’s North American growth strategy.

Belgium-based Vandemoortele has completed the acquisition of Banneton Bakery Inc., based in Swedesboro, New Jersey. The company initially acquired an 80% majority stake in Banneton in April 2024. With the completion of the final phase, Vandemoortele now owns the business in full.

The acquisition gives Vandemoortele a domestic manufacturing footprint in the US. The Swedesboro facility specializes in premium, artisan-style croissants, Danish pastries and other laminated dough products. By combining its European import infrastructure with Banneton’s local production capabilities, Vandemoortele aims to streamline logistics and respond more flexibly and quickly to the needs of its North American customers.

Curt Coolidge, General Manager of Vandemoortele North America, said completing the acquisition strengthens the company’s long-term commitment to its customers. He noted that the full integration of the Swedesboro facility will enable Vandemoortele to offer a comprehensive solution for premium freezer-to-oven croissants and pastries.

Following the acquisition, the Banneton brand will remain part of Vandemoortele’s US portfolio alongside Banquet d’Or. Alexandre Bloch, formerly with Vandemoortele France, will assume the role of Operations Manager at the facility.
