Wastage Report of Turkey published

According to the Wastage Report of Turkey conducted by the Trade Ministry, an average of 2 breads are wasted by every Turkish citizen in a week.

Wastage Research of Turkey for 2018 which is conducted in coordination with the Turkish Trade Ministry, is announced. The national research is conducted by a private company in participation with academics from Hacettepe University. The poll is carried out with 2209 consumers in 26 cities. According to the report which is prepared using the results of the poll, an average of 0,78 loafs of bread is consumed by a person in a day. A person wastes 2 loaves of bread in a week. 11.7 percent of respondents said that sometimes they waste a whole loaf of bread. Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan said that they changed regulations allowing supermarkets and market chains to return 25 to 30 percent of bread and baked products that can not be sold. From now on, return rate will not be able to exceed 5 percent. Trade Minister Pekcan said that this will be an important step to decrease bread waste. Ahmet Guldal, General Manager of Turkish Grain Board wrote via his social media account: “Wastage Report of Turkey shows the vitality of our campaign against bread waste. Our efforts to prevent the waste of our most important food will go on with an increasing trend.”
