Exports in July increased by 21.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and the total exports of the machinery sector amounted to USD 9.8 billion. Increasing its share in all developed countries, the sector exported mostly to Germany, the United States, and the UK. While the United States tried to control the import through protectionist policies, Turkish machinery was successful in increasing its export to the United States by 28.7 percent. Kutlu Karavelioğlu, the chairman of Machinery Exporters’ Union (MAIB), said that the sector will continue to increase its market share in the United States where the sector carried out USD 100 million worth of machine in each month. “Despite extensive protectionist policies in the United States, Turkish machines have important buyer thanks to their increasing quality,” he said. “In July, the most exported products were automotive and its parts followed by machines and their parts. However, machine and its parts are the second most imported products after oil and oil product. It is not a right approach to import the counterparts of our quality products that we sell. Turkish industrialist should not look after products, which we sell to the United States, in foreign countries. Turkey needs to grow through using the local machine, producing more, and exporting more,” Karavelioğlu maintained.
