The project, which enables the factory to produce 3.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, will cover 16% of the facility’s energy needs.

Cargill Turkey has made a significant milestone in its sustainability journey by installing 5,000 solar panels on the roofs of its Turyağ facility in Balıkesir. This project will enable the factory to generate 3.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, covering 16% of the facility’s energy needs. The initiative, reflecting Cargill’s commitment to sustainability, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,500 metric tons per year, equivalent to removing approximately 326 cars from the roads annually.

The project, completed with an investment of around $2.5 million, is part of Cargill's strategy to promote green energy and sustainability in its operations beyond its immediate environmental benefits. Efforts are also underway to implement a similar project at the Orhangazi factory, further expanding the company’s renewable energy footprint.

Cem Bilge, Cargill Food Solutions META (Middle East, Turkey, and Africa) and Russia Factory Operations Director, remarked, "With this forward-looking project, Cargill Turkey demonstrates its proactive approach to sustainability." Bilge added, “This project represents a first for Cargill in Türkiye and Europe. Our Turyağ factory sets an inspiring example for our other regional facilities by producing its own electricity and significantly reducing emissions.”
