Ülker, Turkey’s leading food company, has shared the concrete progress it has achieved since announcing its long-term sustainability targets in 2014, together with its future commitments.
Within the scope of its sustainability vision, Ülker continues to advance decisively toward its “Net Zero by 2050” goal through its environmental, economic, and social initiatives that contribute to positive transformation.
Highlighting that sustainability is a critical issue shaping the future of the world and directly affecting Türkiye’s development and societal well-being, Ülker CEO Özgür Kölükfakı emphasized that success in this field can only be achieved through shared responsibility. Stating that the company aims for growth by preserving resources, preventing waste, and thinking long-term, Kölükfakı said:
“2050 is not just a year on the calendar; it is a critical milestone that will determine the world we leave to our children. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), global food production needs to increase by 70% by 2050 due to population growth and climate events. We recognize that while the food industry has significant potential for transformation and adaptation, it is also among the sectors most vulnerable to climate change. This reality shows that sustainability is not a choice — it is a necessity.”
“Since 1944, the ‘Zero-Waste Company’ culture inherited from our founder Sabri Ülker — protecting the value of every gram of flour, every drop of water, and every bit of labor — has been part of our DNA,” Kölükfakı continued, underscoring that the company bases its sustainability efforts on the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure full traceability and accountability.
