“We need to create Agricultural TOKİs”

Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Head of Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Department, stated that Turkey must increase its agricultural areas.

Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Head of Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Department of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), evaluated the export figures of the grain industry in August and the first 8 months. Tiryakioğlu said, “Our exports in August increased by 28 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to approximately 999.3 million dollars. Our exports, which were 5.5 billion dollars in the first 8 months of 2021, reached 7.2 billion dollars with an increase of 30.3 percent in the same period of 2022. I think we will close this year’s export figures high with the opening of Ukraine. I believe that we will increase our exports to 13 billion dollars by the end of the year.”

Tiryakioğlu said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the relevant ministries provided the necessary support for the grain corridor and that possible food crises in the world were averted with this practice.

Ahmet Tiryakioğlu stated that there are very large agricultural lands in countries such as Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Canada and the USA and added: “Turkey’s soil and cultural structure is a bit different. Since our land is divided by inheritance, it consists of fragmented and small fields. Here, apart from consolidation, we need to create a co-management model, so to speak, agricultural TOKIs (Housing Development Administration). If we switch to this system, the yield rates in our country can increase by two or two and a half times. This is a long-term project. We have to realize it.”
