Aegean exporters export $687 million grain in 8 months

Aegean Cereals Legumes and Oil Seeds Exporters’ Association increased its exports to 687 million dollars with an increase of 64 percent in the January-August period of 2022.

In the last one-year period from September 25, 2021, to September 24, 2022, exports of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds increased by 70% in the Aegean and reached 981 million dollars. Muhammet Öztürk, President of the Aegean Cereals Legumes and Oil Seeds Exporters’ Association emphasized that the cereals, pulses, and oilseeds sector has been consistently successful since the first month of 2022. “While we experienced more than 60 percent increase in exports in January and February, we witnessed records of up to 200 percent in the last period. In the first 8 months of 2022, we increased our exports of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds to 687 million dollars with an increase of 64 percent. We had given the signals that we would exceed 1 billion dollars in the first quarter. In the last one-year period from September 25, 2021, to September 24, 2022, our exports increased by 70 percent and reached 981 million dollars. With the Grain Corridor agreement, Turkey’s facilitating role was highly appreciated all over the world. We hope to see the positive impact of this on our Turkish cereals, pulses, and oilseeds sector in the coming period.” Öztürk said.


Öztürk pointed out that they exported to 146 countries and regions in the January-August period of 2022, and the oil exports, which constitute 57 percent of the grain, pulses, and oilseeds exports of the Aegean, reached 397 million dollars with an increase of 69 percent.

“Our market weight lies in North Africa and Asia-Oceania countries. The top 5 countries where we ship half of our exports are; 91 million dollars to Algeria with an increase of 145 percent, 79 million dollars to Libya with an increase of 68 percent, 79 million dollars to India, the largest export market of Turkish white poppy, after the opening of the quota, 61 million dollars to Tunisia with an increase of 165 percent, and 39 million dollars to Egypt with an increase of 333 percent.” Muhammet Öztürk said.
