In Argentina, the pasta industry is bound by a phrase that captures its unique spirit — “Familia Fideera.” As described by Juan Airoldes, Executive President of the Pasta-Making Companies Union of the Argentine Republic (UIFRA), this concept reflects more than a professional network; it represents a true family united by shared values, trust, and mutual respect.
“We consider ourselves not only colleagues, but also a family,” says Airoldes. “Although our industry is becoming more corporate, something special endures — a bond that allows us to empathize with each other and stay connected. That’s what we call Familia Fideera.”

Argentina is home to around 40 pasta manufacturers, and remarkably, more than half maintain close and constructive relationships with one another. One of the most meaningful traditions within this community is the annual “Encuentro Federal,” where a member company opens the doors of its factory to host fellow producers. The event fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and unity — enabling members to get to know almost every pasta facility in the country over time.
According to Airoldes, Familia Fideera is built on the belief that mutual trust, transparency, and human values lead to better business. “We grow through openness, not secrecy,” he emphasizes.
This philosophy extends well beyond Argentina’s borders. Within the International Pasta Organization (IPO) and during global celebrations like World Pasta Day, UIFRA finds the same values of teamwork and shared inspiration reflected across the international pasta community. “Among IPO members, we feel comfortable and confident,” Airoldes adds. “Because people always matter — and pasta is not just a business. It’s a way of living.”
