South America’s weight in global grain trade is set to grow
Speaking at the IDMA Global Grain & Milling Forum, Gustavo Idígoras, President of CIARA-CEC, highlighted the growing role of Argentina and the wider Mercosur region in global grain, oilseed and by-product trade. Argentina produces around 160 million tonnes of cereals and oilseeds annually and has the capacity to export nearly 120 million tonnes, positioning the country as a major contributor to global food security.

Gerald Masila: East Africa’s food security depends on trade routes, logistics and regional integration
East Africa’s food security increasingly depends on whether grain can move safely, efficiently and affordably across trade corridors, Gerald Makau Masila, Executive Director of the Eastern Africa Grain Council, said at the IDMA Global Grain & Milling Forum in Istanbul. Masila said the region imports 90–95% of the wheat it consumes and remains highly exposed to disruptions in the Black Sea, Red Sea and Suez routes. He also underlined major opportunities for Türkiye and Africa to deepen cooperation in milling technology, flour, pasta, grain handling and investment.

Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality won first place in the international cookbook competition "Gourmand Awards" held in the capital city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the book ‘Ekmek Şehri Balıkesir- City of Bread Balıkesir’ The book earned the right to be published with the label "Best in the World."

The Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality had focused on book projects to document the diverse products, rooted history, various cultures, and traditions of each region within the province, aiming to preserve this valuable heritage for future generations. Representing Balıkesir on the world stage in the realm of culinary culture, the municipality participated in the "Gourmand Awards," the only international competition dedicated to food culture, with the books ‘Zeyti Ülkesi Balıkesir’ and ‘Ekmek Şehri Balıkesir’ This international event, held in a different country each year, took place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, from November 27th to 29th this year.

TO BE PRINTED WITH THE "BEST IN THE WORLD" LABEL

On the first day of the competition, the book ‘Ekmek Şehri Balıkesir’ secured the first place in the Bread Books category, allowing the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality to proudly introduce the richness of Turkish cuisine and its ancient heritage to the world. The ‘Ekmek Şehri Balıkesir’ book earned the privilege of being published with the "Best in the World" label, marking the municipality's second success following the book "50 Cheesy City Balıkesir- 50 Peynirli Şehir Balıkesir."

The authors of the book, Berrin Bal Onur and Neşe Aksoy Biber, expressed their excitement at bringing this pride to our country. They thanked Mayor Yücel Yılmaz and his team for providing them with this opportunity and for their contributions at every stage of the book. The authors conveyed their joy in receiving recognition for their efforts.
