Which foods wouldn’t our grandmother let in the kitchen?

“Spread out all the food you bought from the grocery store on a table. Think once which foods your grandmother would let in the kitchen or prefer to put into the trash bin. We can pretend that we can fool our body, feed ourselves in a way and meet our needs by consuming fabricated products and shelved products as food. Nevertheless, it is not easy to deceive our body at all. The body responds with the necessary answer: It sends us the necessary message with excessive fat, insulin resistance, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and thyroid disorders."

There are many different views on healthy eating; of course, these different views puzzle us. We hesitate over which food we should buy or stay away from. In fact, the solution is so simple: Trust in your grandmother and ponder over which food she would not want to eat; act according to this!

The increase in the world population and the rapid progress in technology have led to the need for new studies to produce low-cost nutrients in a much shorter period of time. Natural production was both laborious and costly. The cultivation of the fields, the planting of the vegetables, the planting of the trees, the irrigation, the cultivation of the earth and finally the cultivation of the fruits, the vegetables... Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals… Are these not what humans need at the end of the day? Cannot we gather these together in proportion to human’s needs to produce artificial foods?

They are already manufactured. Thus, we have industrial food products. However, something is forgotten: Human metabolism is a complex mechanism that is too complicated to fully understand, and the digestive system is a miraculous structure that starts from the mouth and extends to the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Various parts of our digestive system break up and absorb every fruit, vegetable, and protein and then after so many operations, they meet with blood; this system transforms or stores it for maximum benefit. Human metabolism does not behave artificial food as it behaves to natural food. We cannot fool our body; at best we can fool ourselves!

But, what about the products we call natural? In the system we are in, we have to make very rapid and mass production in order to increase the profitability. Unavoidably, the food becomes the victim of this commercial view. No one has time to wait for a chicken to grow and develop slowly. This is also true for tomatoes and cauliflowers. All animals, vegetables, and fruits have to grow quickly without waiting for the natural process and be eaten. At this point, hormones and chemical components rushed into help of producers. Again and again, we arrive into the same topic: Although we cannot distinguish natural products combined with artificial additives, the human metabolism can differentiate this. We cannot fool our body; we can only fool ourselves!

Human intelligence can make new discoveries by imitating nature. Human beings have no power to identify missing parts of nature and to try to complete them and to make up for the missing parts. For instance, this way of thinking is not right: Fat is harmful to the human body; the fat in the milk was mistakenly put in; thanks to the technological possibilities available, we can obtain a healthier food by separating it from the milk. Similarly, we can think like this: don’t waste time by eating fruit. Instead, we can squeeze juice from fruit to take all ingredients into our body quickly and without any effort so that we can fix the mistake that has been made by nature. Again, we can fool ourselves. As we eat the whole fruit, we also take its pulp into our body that is helpful for our digestive system. If we drink juice only, this fruit does not go through our digestive system and mix with our blood directly, which in turn increase our blood sugar quickly.

It is not enough that our grandmothers to decide over what food items to let in the kitchen or put into the trash bin. This is because our grandmother decides in accordance with food items coded in her mind. However, as you know sight is not the only sense organ we have. For example, the grandmother can put yoghurt that won’t go sour for months into a refrigerator. But, the moment she tastes it, she would understand that it is not natural. She will think over why an apple in the basket has not got wormy. Rest assured that our grandmother will prefer to keep away from products that an apple worm also shuns away.

Don’t ever think of mentioning fast food or carbonated drink to our grandmother that would puzzle her. Our grandmother may have tasted dilute grape molasses, but colorful drinks that are mixed with sugar, acid, and coloring agent would be totally foreign to her both in image and taste. We can pretend that we can fool our body, feed ourselves in a way and meet our needs by consuming fabricated products and shelved products as food. Nevertheless, it is not easy to deceive our body at all. The body responds with the necessary answer: It sends us the necessary message with excessive fat, insulin resistance, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and thyroid disorders.

We recommend you to consume vegetable proteins such as vegetables, fruits, and legumes that have been grown in a natural environment and protein varieties such as meat, poultry, fish, milk, egg, and cheese; that is to say natural products. Additionally, we recommend customers to keep away from genetically modified, processed products and refined foodstuffs. If we return to our grandmother’s kitchen, we will take in what our bodies really need and shun away from harmful products: This is the healthy eating.

Our present lifestyle and our eating habits will also be strange to the grandmother just as the food we consume. It is most probable that our grandmother and her neighbors would work at fields, plant seeds, and graze animals; when they carried out these tasks, they would return home on foot. They were eating 3 meals while living so active. It is probable that they were not aware of five o’clock tea. If someone told our grandmother to sit down all day long, go shopping by car, spend the evening in front of the television, and eat something constantly in the meantime, she probably could not hide her amazement.

The way to cope with obesity, which is one of the biggest problems of our time, and the metabolic diseases it causes, is proper nourishment. There is also a golden key to achieving this: to protect our traditional lifestyle and traditional eating habits as much as possible.
