Dear readers, We are again together with our 34th issue.

Food security and food safety are now under threat as a result of the many problems that are experienced today. Many factors such as the production of safe food, supplying it at a sufficient amount, and its distribution increase the significance of food security and safety.

It is estimated that the world’s population will reach 10 billion by 2050 and that the largest portion of this increase will be experienced in underdeveloped and developing countries. Such population growth and urbanization require new approaches to food security and food systems. The world faces inevitable challenges in the coming years as climate change and the growing population will make most of our existing production systems unsustainable. Food safety is of paramount importance in the bakery, pasta and biscuit industries, which are vital to human nutrition.

At this very point, the global milling and food processing giant Bühler hosted a well-attended gathering and assumed responsibility, so to speak. Bühler Networking Days held in Uzwil, Switzerland at the end of August, brought together 800 industry representatives, scientists and experts across more than 80 countries for a more sustainable future. Sustainable production systems for feeding the growing world population were discussed in the meeting in which 500 companies fulfilling the food needs of 4 billion people in total were represented. The event provided numerous intra- and inter-industry networks, providing manufacturers, industry representatives and scientists with a forum to share ideas, inspire each other, and focus on key issues.
